On Thursday, December 8th the San Diego Business Journal honored Bill Howe of the Bill Howe Family of Companies with the 2011 Most Admired CEO Award in the large, family-owned business category. In 1980 Bill Howe started what is now one of the largest San Diego plumbing companies and he has been instrumental in its growth and success not only in the plumbing industry but the San Diego heating and air conditioning, and restoration and flood services as well.
The criteria for the award nomination was based on several key points including the CEOs contribution to the companys financial success; what the CEO has done to create and maintain a positive work environment and employee satisfaction; and the CEOs community involvement and philanthropic contributions. Seventy-five finalists were honored at the event, given plaques for their commitment to their business, trade and communities. The winners were selected in the following categories: Nonprofit Organization, Business Nonprofit Organization, Education, Public Company, Privately Held Company, and Family-Owned Business.
Over the past 30 years, Bill Howe has continued to uphold the commitment he made to his employees, to the community, and to the plumbing trade. Most notably, Bill Howe has been very active in helping young adults who are looking to enter the San Diego plumbing industry as he is an active sponsor of two organizations that provide both in-class and on-the-job training: San Diego Job Corps and the Andrew Chapman Mentorship Program.
Bill Howes commitment to the companys growth and his employees has contributed to the companys low turn-over rate and has won him and the company awards such as the San Diego Business Journals 2010 and 2011 Best Places to Work Finalist Awards. Additionally, Bill Howes commitment to his trade is proven not only in his active involvement with the San Diego Plumbing, Heating, Cooling, Contractors Association (PHCC), but also with the recent recognition by the National PHCC when they, along with Delta Faucet Co., awarded Bill Howe with the 2011 National Contractor of the Year Award.
